The Gradebook feature allows instructors to perform many different functions related
to grading. Within the Gradebook you can add items, manage items, adjust the score
settings, customize grade weighting, and download and upload grades.
From the Control Panel:
1. Click on the Gradebook link in the Assessment section.
Add Item
- Click on the
Add Item button.
- Fill in Item Name field.
- Select from the Category pull down list.
- Type in a Description of the item.
- Set the Date.
- Fill in the Points Possible.
- Specify an option from the Display As pull down list.
- Select Options by clicking desired radio box(s).
- Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the Submit button.
Manage Item
- Click on the
Manage Items button.
- Click on the Modify button next to the item to change.
- Change the desired information.
- Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the Submit button
- If desired, change the order of items by clicking on the dropdown number
menus in front of each item.
- Click the OK button.
Gradebook Settings
- Click on the
Gradebook Settings button.
- Select desired option (see below).
- Click the OK button.
Spreadsheet Settings
- Click desired options.
- Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the Submit button.
Manage Gradebook Categories
(categories are how items are sorted in the gradebook)
- Click the
Add Category button.
- Fill in the Name field.
- Fill in the Description field.
- Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the Submit
button.
Manage Display Options
This feature lets you determine what number percentage is assigned to letter
grades.
- Click the Modify button next to the Letter option.
- Adjust the numbers and letters in offered fields as desired.
- Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the Submit
button.
Weight Grades
- Click the
Weight Grades button.
- Click desired Weight radio button.
- Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the Submit button.
Download Grades
- Click the
Download Grades button
- After Delimiter Type click the circle before Comma.
- Click the Submit button.
- Click the Download button.
- Click the Save button from the File Download window.
- Select the location to save to. You may also want to change the name to reflect the class, section, semester, and year like the Blackboard Course ID.
- Click the Save button.
- Click the Open button from the Download Complete window.
- The file should have each gradebook item in an Excel column and you should not see any squares or other strange characters. If the Excel file does not look correct, try again and after the Delimeter Type click the circle before Tab.
- Close the Excel Spreadsheet
- Click the OK button.
Note: The Gradebook .csv downloaded file is Excel compatible file,
and can be opened from within Excel (File>open).
Upload Grades
- Click the
Upload Gradebook button.
- Click the Browse button.
- Find the desired file on your computer.
- Click the Open button.
- Click the Submit button.
- Choose desired options.
- Click the Submit button.
- Select all students affected by the upload.
- Click the Submit button.
- Click the OK button.
More Information
Question: Can I enter all the grades for an item at one
time?
Answer : Yes, click on the name of the item at the top of
the column and you will see a list of all the students and a grade
field. Use your tab key to move between fields. Remember to Submit
the grades before leaving this screen.
Question: How can I sort my items by Titles?
Answer : The Sort Items by pull down list allows you to sort
Items by Category, Date Added, Positions, and Titles.
Question: Why would I want to use the Filter Items by Category
pull down list?
Answer : The Filter Items by Category pull down list allows
you to filter items by specific Items or view all Items at the same
time.
Question: What happens if I click on any of the underlined
names?
Answer : By clicking the underlined names you will be able
to access a list of options for each category. The student’s
name provides such information as User Information, User Grade List,
and User Details. Clicking the assignments you will be offered options
such as Item Grade List, Item Information, Item Detail, Item Download,
and Item File Clean Up.
