Course Entry Point

The Set Course Entry Point allows an instructor to choose the page their Blackboard course will open up to. The default entry page is the Announcements page. This is because students are essentially forced to see any announcements that have been posted when they log in.

Note: We recommend that you do not change the entry point for your Blackboard course if you plan on using the Announcements feature. The benefits of having the Announcements on the front page are the students see them every time they log into your course, they do not have to go looking for them (which they probably won't do).

From the Control Panel:

  1. Click the Settings link in the Course Options section.
  2. Click the Set Course Entry Point link.
  3. Choose a Blackboard page from the Entry Point menu.
  4. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the Submit button.

More Information

Question: Why does Blackboard have courses open to the Announcement page by default?
Answer:   When students first log in to your course site, the announcements page is the first thing they see. This allows you to put timely, critical information in the announcements and know that your students can view it.

Question: Why would I want my students to enter my course through some other page?
Answer:   If you were using just one or two of Blackboard’s features, perhaps just the discussion board and the online grade book, you would want the course to open on a utilized section.
