Preface
Eastern Idaho Technical College (EITC) is pleased to submit the Revised Year-One and Year-
Three Self-Evaluation Report to the Northwest Commission for Colleges and Universities
(NWCCU).
Since the Year-One Report was submitted, EITC has had several significant institutional changes.
After a national search, Dr. Steve Albiston was appointed President of EITC by the Idaho State
Board of Education. Dr. Albiston had previously been the Vice President of Instruction and
Student Affairs at EITC. This left an opening for a new Vice President for Instruction and Student
Affairs. After a rigorous search, Dr. Sharee Anderson was offered this position. Prior to her
accepting the Vice President position, she had served as Health Professions Division Manager.
This, in turn, left another position open, which was filled by Lynn Durtschi, microbiology
instructor. All of these searches were posted on a national or regional level and included
additional interviews with outside candidates.
In addition to these shifts in roles and responsibilities, the College’s Accreditation Liaison
Officer (ALO) and Information Technology (IT) Manager took a position outside the college. As
a result, the IT division was reorganized, with Shane Paynter assigned managerial duties while
the ALO responsibilities were given to Peggy Nelson, General Education Division Manager. As
with many institutions, several individuals have retired since 2011 and new employees have
been hired to take their place. Despite these changes, the EITC community remains effective,
innovative, energetic, and enthusiastic in support of quality education and student success.
As always, the preparation for a self-evaluation is both challenging and rewarding. To
communicate accurately and honestly our practices and policies requires investigation and
persistence. The results, however, include a keener awareness and confidence in the quality of
education and services we offer to the College community and a greater appreciation of each
other.
During the process of compiling information for the Year-Three Report, administration, staff,
and faculty were involved at every level to check assumptions, glean knowledge, provide new
and different insights, and to discover what the College does well and where it needs to
improve. This was accomplished in several ways. First, our steering committee, although
relatively small, included representatives from administration, instructional divisions,
information technology, student services and the library. Second, for the largest section,
“Educational Resources,” a subcommittee surveyed faculty on various elements of section 2.C.
Response was excellent, and as a result, there are sections of 2.C. that were based directly on
what various faculty members reported. Finally, at the January 2013 in-service, faculty and
staff participated in a 45 minute activity that moved employees from table to table every ten
minutes. Each table represented a different section of the Year-Three Report and included
table tents containing key words to provoke thought. Comments and suggestion sheets were
placed on each table. Participants were encouraged to discuss ideas and observations before
writing their comments, which were all anonymous. See below for an example of one table-
