Summer Camp for Kids
Summer Science Camps are exciting week-long educational opportunities designed for students to explore the wonders of mathematics, science, and computers. The camps have been specially created for students who have completed kindergarten through eighth grade and who live in the southeastern Idaho area. Camps feature enriched instruction with a hands-on, minds-in approach. Each of the week-long camps are arranged so students may participate in one or several camps.
Why is this project needed?
Summer Science Camp organizers created this program because of their growing concern regarding declining student participation in pre-college math and science education at the secondary education level. As a result, this program was designed to make learning mathematics, science, and computers fun and interesting to promote greater interest and in these educational endeavors. The goal is to provide students with an exciting experience that encourages the pursuit of additional science courses in junior and senior high school and ultimately a science based career.
How many students will this grant impact?
Typically, some 450 students attend the Summer Science Camps Project each year.
What will be the results?
Summer Science Camps offer a sequential curriculum designed to stimulate student interest in mathematics, science, and technology. The project is designed to allow students from the kindergarten to eighth grade level to pursue mathematics, physical, life, and earth science competencies. Students exit the program with either a new or renewed interest in mathematics, science or technology.
